Public Service Announcement for all of you who have been tapping your foot since September waiting for Shawn Belschwender to update Clowntime Comics (see left bar, under Comix): If you use the link to the comics page of the Orlando Weekly site, there are new comics weekly, although there isn't an archive or a cheat URL to get to one.

I didn't get this notion in my skull until a week or so ago, so I've missed several updates, and let's just say I'm a weird fucker and a bit over-invested emotionally in my webcomix. I was pretty annoyed with Mr "His Head is a Blender, His Name is Belschwender" for a bit there; fortunately I'm not the sort of schween who sends angry emails to people who produce quality entertainment that costs me absolutely nothing and who occasionally slackass on keeping their sites up to speed.

Like many overachieving, East-coast neurotic women, I went through a Sylvia Plath preoccupation in my day. At a party once I mentioned to author Roger MacBride Allen (whose name I drop solely for the purpose of accurate attribution) that I had picked up a volume of poems by her daughter Frieda. He replied, "I wonder what her work would be like? 'Roses are red/Violets are blue/Mommy is dead/And I blame you'?"
Lucky for Ms. Hughes, she comes from a pretty decent literary gene pool; still, I wouldn't want to compare medicine cabinets with her.   [++link]

Queeny old windbag Gore Vidal has decided to champion Oliver Stone's obviously awful sword & sandal epic, citing its "frank depiction of bisexuality". Gore apparently missed Basic Instinct and a score of other crappy mainstream movies with surf & turf themes, and furthermore doesn't seem to have actually screened Alexander, which doesn't show any sexual interaction between Colin Farrell and Jared Leto.

Not that I doubt Ollie would have loved to show Colin & Jared going at it like a flip book of the Kama Sutra. He'd have the opening weekend box office record locked up for a decade.   [++link]

Comments from Chile: "All of us journalists agree that President Bush looked like a cowboy. It was total breach of protocol. I've seen a lot of John Wayne movies, and President Bush was definitely acting like a cowboy."

Am I wrong in thinking that (1) Dry-gulching the President's personal bodyguard is a bit of a protocol breach, (2) the Duke would have been cracking chins all over the hall, (3) this "cowboy" shit is sounding pretty fucking old?

I am not wrong. Try that shit on Putin, try that shit on Tony Blair. See if they stand around vaporing. See if the press calls Putin a Cossack.   [++link]

It's Thanksgiving Presidential pardon time once again. It's corny stuff, as always, and there's the temptation to make cheap jokes about how he didn't pardon the retarded juvenile turkey. I'm going to go non-partisan here and joke about the CIC choking his turkey. What a grip, dude. Oooh, work the wattles...  [++link]

Henry the Basenji is six years old today. I am not above dogblogging in honor of this event.

I met Henry when he was a gangly adolescent. I was helping an old pal move (only broke one of his dining room chairs), and in the aftermath, one of his college friends showed up with her dog. I rather fancied said friend anyway, and the fact that she had a basenji just made her that much more intriguing. Mind you, she thought I was a dick, and her dog was not interested in making friends when there was pizza to be stalked. Inauspicious first meeting.

Over the course of several years, some opinions have been revised. Now-girlfriend Liz has come to appreciate some of my finer qualities, whatever they may be. And Henry has granted me provisional status as a non-interloper. It's a good life, but not as good as Henry's.

Ivory Coast President Laurent Gbagbo has dismissed as "an insult" comments by French President Jacques Chirac that France will continue its UN-mandated action in the troubled west African nation and will not stand by while a situation of anarchy or fascism develops. Mostly it sounds like he's just pissy that Cote d'Ivoire doesn't have enough oil or cash to bribe the French to go to the mat for them.   [++link]

I also have to pitch in on the farewell to Ashcroft and his resignation letter, quote, "The objective of securing the safety of Americans from crime and terror has been achieved," unquote. Is that legalese for "Mission Accomplished"?

Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out, guy.   [++link]

Like many, many of us, I welcome the announced resignation of Attorney General Ashcroft.

Reading the letter, I was struck by the following: "I have handwritten this letter so its confidentiality can be maintained until the appropriate arrangements mentioned above can be made." (Emphasis mine.) Is it inappropriate that I am reading this to mean that he believes that no electronic document in the Justice Department is secure?

Anyhow, enjoy the pasture, you fishfaced pentacostal cryptofascist.

I remember when the Elvis stamp was in the offing, all of us got to vote on that. Fat Elvis vs. Brando Elvis: Who Will be King? etc.

The Reagan stamp? Oh no no no. Take what we give you and like it, Republican-style, bitches. If there'd been a vote, I was going to write in that I wanted a shot of him belting Angie Dickinson.   [++link]

(The French continue to issue denials. I assume they are either speaking from a purely philosophical perspective, or they just want more time to board up shop windows and get riot police in position.)  [++link]

I would so totally not want to be in the shoes of the reporter who dropped the "news" about Arafat on President Bush this afternoon. His editor has probably torn him a new orifice on each end of his torso. On the plus side, I'll bet he gets a sympathy card and/or a job offer from Dan Rather.   [++link]

The Israelis are reporting that Arafat is "clinically dead"; if the French are denying it, it must be true. The good news is that these things always go in threes, so we can hope for denials of Castro's and Chirac's grave conditions.   [++link]

I'm doing NaNoWriMo again, for real this year.

Last year I gave up the blog and all my webcomix for the month in an attempt to focus my time on writing. This year I'm just swearing off Law & Order reruns.

So anyway, the link on the left for Will's November Novel is going live again. Wish me some luck.   [++link]
