Public Service Announcement for all of you who have been tapping your foot since September waiting for Shawn Belschwender to update Clowntime Comics (see left bar, under Comix): If you use the link to the comics page of the Orlando Weekly site, there are new comics weekly, although there isn't an archive or a cheat URL to get to one.

Like many overachieving, East-coast neurotic women, I went through a Sylvia Plath preoccupation in my day. At a party once I mentioned to author Roger MacBride Allen (whose name I drop solely for the purpose of accurate attribution) that I had picked up a volume of poems by her daughter Frieda. He replied, "I wonder what her work would be like? 'Roses are red/Violets are blue/Mommy is dead/And I blame you'?"

Queeny old windbag Gore Vidal has decided to champion Oliver Stone's obviously awful sword & sandal epic, citing its "frank depiction of bisexuality". Gore apparently missed Basic Instinct and a score of other crappy mainstream movies with surf & turf themes, and furthermore doesn't seem to have actually screened Alexander, which doesn't show any sexual interaction between Colin Farrell and Jared Leto.

Comments from Chile: "All of us journalists agree that President Bush looked like a cowboy. It was total breach of protocol. I've seen a lot of John Wayne movies, and President Bush was definitely acting like a cowboy."
3:45 PM ++ posted by Uncle William ++ Television Note: Am I the only one who snickered at the William S. Burroughs reference in last night's ep of CSI? [++link] 12:20 PM ++ posted by Uncle William ++ It's Thanksgiving Presidential pardon time once again. It's corny stuff, as always, and there's the temptation to make cheap jokes about how he didn't pardon the retarded juvenile turkey. I'm going to go non-partisan here and joke about the CIC choking his turkey. What a grip, dude. Oooh, work the wattles... Henry the Basenji is six years old today. I am not above dogblogging in honor of this event.
3:09 PM ++ posted by Uncle William ++ Ivory Coast President Laurent Gbagbo has dismissed as "an insult" comments by French President Jacques Chirac that France will continue its UN-mandated action in the troubled west African nation and will not stand by while a situation of anarchy or fascism develops. Mostly it sounds like he's just pissy that Cote d'Ivoire doesn't have enough oil or cash to bribe the French to go to the mat for them. [++link] 2:56 PM ++ posted by Uncle William ++ What sort of day is today? Colin Powell has quit his post, and O.D.B. didn't even outlive Jesus. This is a day made of 24 hours' worth of Dook. [++link] 1:37 PM ++ posted by Mugs ++ Psychiatric patients everywhere feel so vindicated right now. And tinfoil sales are expected to rise (paid in cash, bought three ZIP codes away). [++link] 11:04 PM ++ posted by Mugs ++ Setting new standards for Divine Retribution, a spokesman for the Lord God Almighty announced today that Yasser Arafat would be condemned to spend eternity at his own funeral. [++link] 10:27 AM ++ posted by Mugs ++ We're pretty sure they mean it this time. [++link] 4:23 PM ++ posted by Uncle William ++ Can I get a great big fuckin' WOOOOOOOOO here, folks? I also have to pitch in on the farewell to Ashcroft and his resignation letter, quote, "The objective of securing the safety of Americans from crime and terror has been achieved," unquote. Is that legalese for "Mission Accomplished"?

Like many, many of us, I welcome the announced resignation of Attorney General Ashcroft.

I remember when the Elvis stamp was in the offing, all of us got to vote on that. Fat Elvis vs. Brando Elvis: Who Will be King? etc.
3:45 PM ++ posted by Uncle William ++ In other news, Madonna understands geopolitics and 4th generation warfare about as well as a four year old, and she's happy to prove it. [++link] 11:03 AM ++ posted by Uncle William ++
"He is dead. It is possible they will delay the announcement," one Palestinian source said. "He died after bleeding in the brain began last night. His bodyguards started hugging and kissing and telling each other to be strong."
10:29 PM ++ posted by Mugs ++ I would so totally not want to be in the shoes of the reporter who dropped the "news" about Arafat on President Bush this afternoon. His editor has probably torn him a new orifice on each end of his torso. On the plus side, I'll bet he gets a sympathy card and/or a job offer from Dan Rather. 4:29 PM ++ posted by Uncle William ++ Especially creepy image, simply because of how it smashes home how much Jenna looks like her dad and Barb looks like her mom. [++link] 12:13 PM ++ posted by Uncle William ++ The Israelis are reporting that Arafat is "clinically dead"; if the French are denying it, it must be true. The good news is that these things always go in threes, so we can hope for denials of Castro's and Chirac's grave conditions. [++link] 1:11 PM ++ posted by Uncle William ++
I'm doing NaNoWriMo again, for real this year.
